This book is the result of the studies carried out in the Department of Architecture, University of Florence. The volumes are subject to a qualitative process of acceptance and evaluation based on peer review, which is entrusted to the Scientific Publications Committee of the Department of Architecture (DIDA) with blind review system. Furthermore, all publications are available on an open-access basis on the Internet, which not only favors their diffusion, but also fosters an effective evaluation from the entire international scientific community.<\/p>\n

Ma’arat al Numan: The resilience of a Syrian city at war
\n<\/strong>Training specialists in reconstruction: Universit\u00e9 Populaire Syrienne<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Overview :\u00a0<\/strong>The Syrian city of Ma’arat al Numan, a symbol of countless legendary stories of conquest and liberation, was one of the first cities to participate in the popular democratic uprising of March 2011. \u201cLiberated\u201d in October 2012, today 70% of the city lies in ruins, having lost a large part of its population and almost all of its infrastructure and public buildings.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the action of local coordinating committees, neighborhood associations and NGOs, the population is trying as well as possible to rebuild, confronting the immensity of human loss and destruction with pitifully limited means.<\/p>\n

Our association \u2013 Ila Souria \u2013 has been working for over two years towards the launch of a pilot center of the Universit\u00e9 Populaire Syrienne<\/em>(Syrian Popular University or Syrian Adult Education*) \u00a0in Ma’arat al Numan.For more than a year we\u2019ve been engaged in training reconstruction specialists in architecture, urban planning and sustainable reconstruction, using these experiences in the city to refine the approach. This training is part of a project called \u201cTahdir,\u201d initiated by the European Union. We\u2019re partners in the project, along with the Olof Palme International Center in Stockholm, and the Arab Reform Initiative in Paris. \u00a002\/20\/2017<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>Formation de sp\u00e9cialistes de la reconstruction (Universit\u00e9 Populaire Syrienne)<\/strong><\/p>\n

R\u00e9sum\u00e9 :\u00a0<\/strong>Ma\u2019arat al Numan, cit\u00e9 syrienne, symbolique de multiples et glorieuses histoires de conqu\u00eates et de lib\u00e9rations fut une des premi\u00e8res villes \u00e0 avoir particip\u00e9 au soul\u00e8vement populaire et d\u00e9mocratique de mars 2011. \u00ab\u00a0Lib\u00e9r\u00e9e\u00a0\u00bb en octobre 2012, elle est aujourd\u2019hui d\u00e9vast\u00e9e \u00e0 70%, ayant perdu une grande partie de sa population et la presque totalit\u00e9 de ses infrastructures et b\u00e2timents publics.<\/p>\n

Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019action des \u201ccomit\u00e9s locaux de coordination\u201c, d\u2019associations de quartiers et d\u2019ONG, la population, autant les locaux que des \u00ab\u00a0migrants internes\u00a0\u00bb venus d\u2019autres villes ravag\u00e9es par la guerre (comme Alep), essaye tant bien que mal de (se) reconstruire, avec des moyens d\u00e9risoires face \u00e0 l\u2019immensit\u00e9 des pertes humaines et des destructions mat\u00e9rielles.<\/p>\n

Notre association Ila Souria tente depuis plus de deux ans d\u2019y initier un centre pilote de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Populaire Syrienne et s\u2019est engag\u00e9e depuis plus d\u2019un an dans la formation de sp\u00e9cialistes de la reconstruction en \u00ab\u00a0Architecture, urbanisme\u00a0: reconstruction durable\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0; en prenant cette ville comme terrain d\u2019exp\u00e9rimentation. Formation faisant partie d\u2019un projet d\u00e9nomm\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0Tahdir\u00a0\u00bb, initi\u00e9 par l\u2019Union europ\u00e9enne. Nous participons \u00e0 ce dessein aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de l\u2019Olof Palme Center, Stockholm, et de l\u2019association Arab Reform Intiative, Paris. \u00a014\/03\/2017<\/p>\n
